I think they are talking about that, origonally is was supossed to be paperless, but it was something in the legislation that refered to a cert being issued that made it go the way it did. I have been getting my insurance on line for a while now, my AXA account lets me alter the car and print a new cert now much the same as some of the trader policies.:)

Just a quick update. (I hate it when a thread's left hanging).

Megane passed MOT today no problem.

A bit surprised to see the 'plain paper' certificate you now get instead of the official-looking green one. Apparently next year I won't even get that as it's going completely online! :?

If there's a cock up on the computer I bet the traffic cops are not going to take my word for it, "....computer says 'NO!'".

if you do get problems with your dash panel, which usually starts with the trip and clock going back to zero all the time, then dash going blank, Renalult main dealer will replace whole unit for approx £100, normal price around £500 even if out of warranty as it is a known fault from manufacture  :)

No dash problems as yet, all four discs and pads replaced a year ago. And yes the rear ones were a right state.

if its the one with the digital dash you will probably be buying one soon, dunno if they recalled them or summat but every other one i test has had a new one fitted, not hard to spot when a 5-6 year old car has only done 300mls....rear brakes tend to seize up as well, its also at the age when springs start snapping but no real way of predicting when precisely they go.

He's a top bloke. As soon as my car was out of warranty "I started giving it to him". Good honest service and half the price of Renault dealer. He's done the belts and all 4 discs and pads and the usual other bit's and pieces. Saved me a small fortune.

:D

The belts were changed last year so I'm OK on that score.

As for ball joints/track rod ends/steering tie rods I'll just have to see what the tester says. No point jumping the gun when there's no obvious symptoms. I trust my local MOT guy (he fits tyres and does oil and filter changes for me, etc) so fingers crossed.

Cheers.

No "Kwick Rip" Taking going on here then?;)

the mileage is good but it is right on the cusp of a timing belt replacement due to age.

The engine will be rev'd' to the limit at least once!

if there is wear on ball joints/track rod ends/steering tie rods then you will be advised/failed, it may coinside with the visable wear on the trye ;)

My Megane's MOT is due in 7 weeks, so planning ahead.;)

It's a 55 plate 1.5DCi hatch with 35000 on the clock. I've owned it from new and it's been serviced regularly. There were no advisories last time and all obvious stuff such as the lights, etc work and the tyres are fine (5mm on back, 4mm on front).

Are there any oily bits which are likely to trip me up? The only thing I've noticed recently is that the OSF tyre is wearing on the inside, about the first inch of tread. (The rest of the tread is about 4mm.) Simple as tracking?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

main problems with the renault in general are the ball joints , track rod ends etc.
they never seem to last very long , could be one starting to go if you have a tyre wearing unevenly .
