I am in agreement here with Kev1975, one must be careful about making that decision to fail it.
section 6.1 states that the structure must be severely reduced in strength which must affect the steering and braking of the vehicle, so it must be very bad before fail.
The fact that part of the chassis may be severely corroded outside a prescribed area does not on its own justify fail.

i would be very careful with that , was this rot in a prescribed area ?

They went into this on a recent ntt course, If the two skins are touching and are held in place by welded joins, the tester is advised to treat the two skins as one piece, but if there is a gap between them, it would be classed as a separate section and would of course be a fail, impossible to judge without seeing it tho.

| im the same kev but what is excessive, most escorts have an hairline crack maybe 4 inch long with maybe a few mm gap but if we were to hit it with the assesment tool nothing normally shifts, pretty solid so it kinda confuses the issue?

If its excessively corroded I fail them.
I know exactly what you mean. I use the assessment tool
and make my mind up from there.

Ide like other peoples opinions on ford escort corrosion on the rear floor/chassis sections. This is a common problem on these vehicles and the similar problem occurs on the front of vauxhall corsa.
The question im asking is how do you folk judge whether or not these areas are excessively corroded, these areas have a double skin and many just break the first layer leaving the rest in good solid condition! do you pass and advice or fail?
