If you need anything taking there let me know, they are only 5 mins from me. Plus we do all of Williams MOT's for them so i'm always in the area.

PM replied, Kev.
I take it with a name like Manchunion Springs and being on a Chester Road we're talking Manchester here? That's almost local compared to most of the places I've found that would do it so may have to give them a shout, cheers

Take the spring off and get it sorted, no need for a new one, I used to get them re tempered down at Manchunion springs.

Fixing the spring will be done - but I have to find one first, which will probably mean having one sent from Holland. She needs a ticket before that's going to happen so thanks for the alternative suggestion

Hi SM
I'm afraid the Manual reads as follows.....
Method of Inspection
1. Check
· that there is enough clearance of the axle or suspension with the bump stop or chassis, and
· whether any suspension unit is so weak that it does not hold the body far enough away from the road wheels.
Reason for Rejection
1.
· Inadequate clearance of the axle or suspension with the bump stop or chassis, or · a suspension unit so weak that the body or other part of the vehicle fouls a road wheel or would do so if the vehicle was laden.
Note: a missing bump stop rubber is not a reason for rejection

I could do with some testers' opinions on this one. The front suspension of my step-daughter's Daf (transverse leaf spring) includes two rubber stops about 8 inches in from the end of the springs. The effect of these is to firm up the suspension under cornering by limiting the part that can flex. There are no other bump-stops but so much travel that you couldn't bottom out anyway.
Normally they sit with about 8mm clearance (the thickness of the top leaf in the photo) between the rubber and the spring but this one has sagged just enough to touch, depending on how the car comes to rest. If you lift the front by hand it then settles back with a gap.

There is still lots of suspension travel and the ride height is so close to normal (within about 1/2 inch) that you can't see the difference but, if this was presented, would you guys see it as a fail for inadequate clearance to a bump-stop?
