Thankyou to everyone. I have been running around panicking for the last week because of this. :( I finally managed to have the LPG serviced yesterday (foolishly didn't before the MOT) & she of course sailed through the test. :D

The MOT station & my mechanic have had words & it seems that it all got misunderstood in the translation! I have had a £20 refund on my bill & an apology.

Thanks again

The short answer is the tester is wrong.

The car should be tested on the 'presented' fuel as big..E has said.

Section 7.3 of the Manual states ....

7.  Multi fuel vehicles Vehicles which run on more than one fuel(eg petrol and LPG) should be tested on the fuel they are running on when presented. There is a slight difficulty with LPG vehicles: the hydrocarbons emitted are propane rather than hexane. So the HC reading obtained must be divided by the “propane/hexane equivalency factor” (PEF) marked on the gas analyser.

As already stated the car is tested "Only" on the fuel it is switched to so just switch it to petrol and ask for a retest.

If the guy disagrees show him the relevant section in the manual .

Hi Paul 88

Welcome to the Forum.
What Stealth says is quite right.
Just out of interest, is it actually registered as LPG on the log book?

Thanks

Kev.

Present your Car running on Petrol...The Tester MUST test the vehicle "AS PRESENTED".... Just advise him that its currently running on Petrol though as he will need to register the "fuel type" prior to the start of the Test....No problems though!..;)

My 95 Merc S320 has just failed its MOT on emissions. I had it converted to LPG 6 years ago. The tester has said that as the car is registered with DVLA as LPG it can only be tested on LPG emissions & not petrol. The LPG system does need a service as I think the valves may be sticky but I am reasonably sure it would have passed on petrol. What are the rules please?
