you misunderstand, have you ever tested a yank tank cat equipped that didnt read damn near zero?they are made to meet those stringent limits that polar bear loving californians adore,as such most of their after market gear meets similar specs.compare emissions readings from most yank autos with, say,a peugeot.nuff said.

We have been carrying out the work on imported vehicles to get them to UK MOT Spec for some years now and would suggest that you try and source any lights you need in the USA as its far cheaper and quicker than over here (except fog light)
Fog lights are no problem its finding a rear lamp unit with either a clear section which can be used with an amber bulb or amber section for indicators. Same goes for headlamps with correct beam pattern.
Good luck with the move

Hi all! Thank you all for the responses & information. KevG is totally correct, in some states in the US, we don't have to pass any sort of car test.
I can add lights & other stuff like that once I'm in the UK. But my main concern is passing the exhaust / emissions part of the test. It says that they hook up a plug for diesels, but do they do that for gas/petrol engine cars? Hopefully I will be okay....

Hi Guys.
Its a common misconception that emission regs in the US are more stringent than here in the UK. In fact apart from California ours are stricter.
In fact Chinas' regs are stricter than the U.S. ! its something the Americans need to address ASAP!

Yep, I totally agree. California does have a strict policy when it comes to emissions and regulations. In Michigan, we don't have any required testing.
KevG:
What qualifications will my car have to pass as far as exhaust emissions? Every part of my exhaust is brand new with no rust. It is not loud either. I just want to know what is in store for me & my car.

Hi Mike
Welcome to the site.
Nice motor - but from the picture I would seriously ask if you want to move to a freezing, bankrupt UK - it looks a lot warmer there !!!
Have a look here castrolrob wrote: english emissions regs are unbelievably lax compared to what you are used to,shouldnt have any problems in that respect, lights will probably be your main concern.need a rear foglight o/s/r,beam patterns shud also match uk spec, red indicators rear, fronts built into sidelights etc are all no nos, check the vosa website out for precise requirements.i would query the wisdom of moving from sunshine to a land where men are men and sheep get worried tho.....good luck wiv the job all the same.

Thanks for the information. Yep, the rear fog light is something I'll have to get installed once over in the UK.

PS. Some states have no MOT equivalent, Some states do not even require a seat belt to be worn.

That car looks like it will be able to sit in traffic faster than the average car.

Have a look here http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s07000301.htm
Note the section on the left regards personal imports.
PS When you get to Wales - don't show the slightest interest in sheep - it will get you into trouble

Hi all. My wife got a job and we are moving near Cardiff, Wales. I have a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT with 24,000 miles. The car is in excellent condition but does have performance modifications to it.
What kind of emissions test do I have to pass? Right now I have a different camshaft in it (228/236 duration), I have Kooks long tube headers with high flow catalytic converters, and stock/factory mufflers.
Just wondering what I should expect. I looked at this website as well doing some learning.

Any help would be very much appreciated.......
