Bimmer,
That's great - thanks a lot. I was just about to log in to say they called me today to discuss my "appeal" and told me they still didn't accept it. They also said they had contacted VOSA who had (apparently) not heard of cars wired in such a way. In their favour they have asked me to bring in any correspondence such as yours & the Kevs and I have also offered to show them the car's wiring diagram.
Your comment and link are greatly appreciated, sure it will do the job. Will post back after Saturday's re-test.
All the best

hi
it clearly states in the manual, ignition on and dipped headlights to check rear fog light. http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s01000103.htm so it should have passed and the tester was wrong to fail it. go back and tell him to read his manual.

Both Kevs, thanks very much for the reply. I will go talk to the guys and let them know, they did admit to never having tested such a beast as the Acclaim but should have done something like a Mk1 Golf.
Reckon there's nothing I can do to modify to meet their requirements anyway.
Thanks again, I'll post back with what they say.
Cheers
I wouldn't be modifying anything as the car is how it left the factory with regards to the rear foglamp wiring .

A lot of cars were wired like that from new. Mk1 Golf I think too?
Kev
correct me if i'm wrong but i am fairly certain there is something in the manual about original feature of design , or words to that effect .

Hi
My 1982 Triumph Acclaim just failed as the rear fogs go out when the full headlight beam is put on (they work fine with normal dipped beam). MoT station said they were adversely affected by another lamp's operation. I have read that rear fogs need only work on dipped beam and my manual suggests they are wired through the dipped beam (not the full beam).
Have I been fairly failed
Thanks
Rod
it should not have failed for that , it will have been wired like that from the factory & i seem to remember some vauxhall's used to be wired the same way .
doubt if anyone would want to use main beam during fog anyway
