Hi Millie -

Your Suzuki is a 'pick up' therefore it's classed as a 'goods vehicle' - ie a 'car derived van, pick-up or truck' according to the manual - so therefore it's NOT a passenger carrying vehicle.

See Note 1 in the flow chart and refer to the second flow chart for NON passenger cars.  ;)

The limits for this vehicle are 3.5% CO + 1200 HC - a NON CAT test - it's all in the book folks.;)

The car is tested according to age of first use (2000) so it will need to pass the emission rules for that year of car. The fitting of a CAT is not a requirement in itself, but for the levels of emission needed, means you will need one to pass the test.

However if you can provide a letter from the manafacturer stating that this engine cannot meet British emission rules, it can be tested to the next lower standard . In your case a non CAT test. So with some effort on your behalf you can get this car through the MOT test, assuming it can meet 3.5% CO and 1200ppm HC.

Look at the bottom of the page on the left headed "PERSONAL IMPORTS".

good luck :)

Hi Hope you can help

I have a Suzuki Carry 1.6 Mega Cargo Pick Up

It is an imported model registered 2000 declared made 1999

My question is does it need a cat?

are imported vehicles exempt?

This one has an mot is 1600cc petrol with a carburettor and no cat on the exhaust system and nothng has been taken off since the last mot or replaced, From what I remember cats were not usualy fitted to carburettor model engines or am I wrong?

many thanks in advance for any help

Milly
