Took car to Kwikfit for MOT (probably not best idea).
Failed for a few things:-

1. Headlight not secured. I know one of the fixings for the headlight
is broken but are they being overpicky here. Its definitely not loose
because 4 out of 5 bolts are still holding it.

2. Exhaust mountings. They are saying the bit that hangs on to the
rubbers has snapped off.and I need whole new exhaust. Can this be
repaired/welded or something?

I'm seriously thinking of going somewhere else and paying for another
MOT as a second opinion.

make a bracket to secure the headlight , job sorted .
exhaust bracket can be repaired any way you like as long as it is secure & supports the system , even a piece of bar fastened to the exhaust with an exhaust clamp will be fine as long as it is secure .

So as long as headlight isnt loose then it doesnt matter about original fixing being broken?

Would an independent garage normally be able to fix the exhaust clamp? Must be cheaper than a whole new exhaust?

plenty of garages carry out such repairs , there is nothing that says the headlight has to be on its original brackets , just has to be secure & aimed correctly .
exhaust bracket should be an easy enough job .
