Its an MR2 Turbo. I may just do that, but I'm not overly worried about the Emmisions. It passed last time and the fuelling has been trimmed a bit since then so it should pass easier this time round.

hi ant, even if the actual exhaust blow passes the test ( which is down to the testers decision ) it may still fail the the emissions test. why not take it to your local testing station before any test and ask them to check your emissions. what car do you have.

Just found this under Section 7.1
Reason for Rejection
...
2. a. A major leak of exhaust gases from any part of the syste
Note: A minor exhaust leak from, for example, a connection joint or a pin hole, is not a Reason for Rejection
So in theory, if I can tighten the problematic nut up enough to reduce the leak then I should be alright.
To be honest, I think it sounds worse than it actually is because its right at the head/manifold flange.

Thanks for the link bimmer. It is an import so I'm aware it needs to be tested at the default level, however I have had to correct a few MOT testers in the past on this!
The Wideband Lambda reading on the ECU is spot on for A/F ratio, so I'm hoping that will equate to good emissions
Its the manifold blow that concerns me over the emissions though.
Thanks,
Ant

hi, depends on which vehicle and year it is. if it is an import and there is no exact match on the system or in the emissions book then it has to be tested to the default levels as set out in the flow charts in the manual. if there is a match then us the limits given. have a look at these pages from the testers manual which include flow charts. http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s07000301.htm

hmm... not as straight forward as I thought then.
Its pretty bad at the moment as its just been through a days ragging on the dyno and road tuning.
But when its tightened up it is pretty much non existant so I'll aim to get it back to that. The car is pre-cat so what would that mean for the emissions?
Thanks for your replies,
Anthony

| It also depends on the effect on the emissions, it could could cause excess co on a cat equipped car Last edited on Wed May 5th, 2010 09:26 pm by mark2

Just wanted to double check wether a blow at the manifold/head flange would fail the mot.
Can someone clarify please?
Many thank,
Ant
