at least the work is honest as nobody would gain from selling un-needed parts
I work for a Dealer....Our Bonus is Time paid...Faster we work more we earn....No need to Sell anything to make Bonus......

Yes me to, good honest work, good basic pay, no bonus on parts etc, just test & basic repairs .
Anouther true story.. Failed vectra on rear suspension bushs. Returned a few days later said "dealer said not to bad (shouln't fail) but done them anyway" I looked under car, no new bits ! Owner showed me bill (v. large) for fitting 2 new arms. Told owner to complain to service manager, came back few days later told me nowt to complain about as it was all ok . New bits fitted. He left car at dealer overnight, manager checked car next morning all ok. Somthing happened overnight, or new bit now self fitting !!

All this makes me wonder.
How do you find a good old honest garage.
EG is it worth paying the extra to take my focus to a main ford dealer?
Or are they just as bad as the likes of kwik fit?

I know of someone who went to work at an independent garage that were well dodgy (he didn't know this until working there ) , they were carrying out a the service before the MOT & ringing the customer to tell them that this that & the other was needed before the car would pass a test.
some of their favourites were brake pipes , discs & pads , exhausts & on one car they refused to test it until a new offside mirror was fitted ( £170 ) as the original was covered in tape where it meets the door ( but was very secure ) .
he even said that they had fitted front brake pipes to a car & gravity bled them at the top of the flexi hoses , their excuse was that they didn't like the risk of snapping bleed nipples off or damaging a master cylinder .
needless to say he was only there for a day , then left & luckily got his old job back .
so it goes to show that it is not just the big chains of garages that operate unethically , there are some outwardly respectable independent garages as well .

I supose if you complained they would say somthing like err on side of caution. We get quite a few of there fails after punters have had a "free" mot, i think they do some deal if you buy insurance. Gives honest testers a bad name.
Buyer beware, no free lunch's

No such thing as a free lunch, the discounts get you in and then your done.
I had a customer today who had been to another fast fit chain and walked out £1100 poorer having paid no less than £650 just for a cat on his year 2000 golf. Then there was discs, pads, ball joint and 2 tyres. He only went in for a tyre.
beware beware and beware

Thanks for the quick reply.
It looks like I was conned.
I had left the car with them for a service plus the MOT. So they told me over the phone about the brake disks. So overall its cost me about £300 for this MOT. I knew it was a mistake to go to kwik fit. I was tempted because I was getting a service plus MOT for £80 after a 20% discount.

Conned, since beginning of June worn brake discs are no longer a reason for rejection, did you see a VT30 failure with "Brake discs worn to excess" or were you told verbally ?

Hi folks. Ive just had the MOT done on my 06 reg 1.6 Ford Focus at Kwik Fit. They told me that the front brake disks were worn to 21mm thick and that the minimum spec for the disks was 23mm. So I had to fork out for new disks and pads to get it through the MOT.
Does this sound ok, or am I being conned?
