most testers possibly, when i log a test in i apply for a duplicate fail for assorted reasons,if it comes up can only be issued etc i pump in a request for a pass, have had this happen when fail registers but no prior pass on system, this means that you know that someone somewhere has failed this(usually a pikey transit)and the presenter is hoping for better results with you.the eyeballs go on overtime at about this point!

| Find out the reference number from the V5, then look it up on http://www.motinfo.gov.uk . If the seller won't let you see the V5, or doesn't have it, probably one to avoid.

without any of the mentioned numbers you would not be able to find out the history of pass or fail .
any tester who is presented with the vehicle for test would not know the test history either , so would have no way of knowing if it had failed somewhere else on the same day never mind months ago .
I only hope the car is cheap or something special as there would have to be a reason why it hasn't got an MOT if it is owned by a trader .

can i find out if a car i'm intending to buy has been tested and given a refusal page?
the 2nd hand car i'm thinking of buying has had no mot for a few months. the owner or trader says he doesnt have a mot refusal (VT30). but he may be lying and just doesnt want to disclose the cars faults. i cant do a history check on dvla as i dont have an old mot number or v5 number. i have the plate umber only.
Also, if the car has been tested some months ago and given a VT30, and i present it at a local garage for an mot, will the tester be aware (by computer records) thats its previously been given a VT30? (and not been retested).. or will he just test it from scratch with an unbais inspection?
ta for any help.
