Any ideas as to why there is no "first used on or after" date for the SRS   :?

Rear seat belts and other safety features have a "first used on or after" date.

As this is my first post on here I hope I don't upset to many.
We are all suppose to be profesionals and as such should we all not read and information available to us with regards any changes to the Mot test whether that comes via the VTS device or through other sources such as trade publications such as Matters of Testing. If we all were to read and read properly the information made available then there would be very little cause for concern over the current and future changes. The testing guide and manual are there to help and a freely accesable. Prehaps spending a couple of hours reading through the manual would be a good use of our own time and lessen the obvious total failure to grasp even the simplest of changes that seams so apparant on this forum.

Why is it strange to find "SRS" in the seat belt section? When by it nature a seat belt is a restraint system.
It would seam to me that if you can't fail it yet then the reason for failure is not there so pass and advise if you feel it necessary. Lets not make this any harder than it needs to be, remember there are no grey areas......who they kidding

If they wanted to do a tiered introduction then they should have added the new content into the computer as a whole and not only to the manual - It would not have been difficult to have made the fail button on the April/May stuff none selectable, but kept the advise button there to use.

As it is, we now have to manually type all the new advises, but more to the point: If we are already having to make a note of said item being advise only, then surely we would of been capable of noting it as a fail.

Arse from elbow springs to mind
I'm glad it's not only me that thinks the same, I was under the impression that these items were  fail but had the option of advisory until April so why not write the VTS device like that.

If you mean SN 9-2011 issued November then fair enough but a RfR in the manual on the device now states, section 5.4.2  A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp: ·      inoperative ·
 indicating a system malfunction.
Why put it in there if it's not a failure yet?

Special Notice September 2011 explains it all.

Suppelmentary Restraint Systems (SRS), which in essence is airbags, comes into the test officially May 2012.

At the moment a faulty light will only warrant an advise, but in a few months time it will be a fail.

Check out VOSA's MoT magazine page 8-9 for further info.

This is a link to the proposed "new" testers bible.

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT%20Inspection%20Manual.pdf

Section 5.4 is what you are asking about.

Bare in mind that this is not set in stone yet.Or is it?

You may also want to have a read of this.
