at my last station,,if the vehicle had two different tyre makes it would cause an imbalance on the atl brake tester..guess it was down to different tyre grips:?

yes i know what your saying but ours is clearly wrong, this is why we have also been using it manually because it gives a correct reading at a higher value, so the vehicle is a pass

except when the braking effort is below 40kg, as the book says, our machine will and does take a reading below this but not always, so failing it at 35kg for instance, take onboard what your saying but really you shouldnt have to redo the brake test,

When I moved to this place there was all new (MAHA) ATL gear, we all said imbalance fails had doubled, but now after a few visits from engeneer (no faults found) it seems to have setled down. Maybee we have got used to how too use it, very gentaly gets correct results, so now if that is the only fail I repeat brake test, if same result fail if ok pass.
Dont forget that it is doing it's job properly as immbalace at any point is a correct fail, quote from the book
the out-of-balance of the brakes on the steered road wheels is greater than 25% (30% for Class 5 vehicles) at any time whilst brake effort is increased gradually (see Method of Calculating Brakes Out-of- Balance in Section 3.8).

cheers, just find that the atl is a pain to be honest it might be that the software is not right yet as its a new dunlop and it would appear theres not many out there yet.

It seems to constantly fail on the balance and always seems to take the reading at a low point so giving giving fails and the time to check for balance and judder is very limited, like seconds.

you get more time to evaluate the brakes manually imho

If you have ATL brake testing are you allowed to use it manually (class 4 and 7) and do you have to record ie print out all results and save to comp.

cheers Bill
