Ive posted on this subject before as there is an MOT station down the road that sells these infernal silencers how he gets away with it beggers belief.

Anyway doesn't the inspection manual say something like "an exhaust that is noisier than a standard fitment for that model will fail" so that should answer the ferrari question.

Personally I hate the damn things and refuse to test them which has causes me some abuse from customers (mainly gobby boy racers) who always come up with the line " well it passed ok last year" to which my reply is always "well b....y well take it there then"

There is always a tester out there who will pass them.

I have failed 2 this week on noise , both were vauxhall corsa's , lol
1st was an m reg 1.2 merit 5 dr , the owner had removed the cat & centre silecncer , then fitted what looked & sounded like a motorbike race can on the back of it ( extremely noisy & failed the cat test for obvious reasons )
the 2nd was a corsa sport , this had all the other bits there & just a noisy fart cannon out the back , this failed on noise & also failed the emissions on co & lambda .
so it looks like we are doing the dirty work of vosa after all :D

In what way will we be testing towbars? Other than obscuring number plates (and the odd case of interfering with back lights due to crap wiring)

The exhaust noise thing has been altered slightly from previous and noise can be assessed throughout the rev range although other than giving the good old "standard silencer in a reasonable condition" comparison they don't actually give any definite noise limits (perhaps in the future decibel tests will be carried out for noise pollution) it's still open to a good deal of tester interpretation and the prospect of turning a blind eye.

hi all went to my seminar and it was good nice food and lots of testers there..they said tow bars now have to be tester and all exhausts that are noiser then original would fail..so i said we got to do the diryt work for them he said yes and soon police would help to...so shops that sell the systems should advise them it will fail a mot if they fit it to there car...:?
