I suppose that the absence of any under seat wiring would go to show that they were never originally fitted.  Some manufacturers encode the SRS set up into the VIN (Skoda do this), so if you've got a handy VIN decoder it could help.

Thanks for that DB9, I did actually speak to my VE about it (and looked in at 5.4) and he highlighted the ALLto me but we both missed the "original equipment" bit, but in the midst of a test how would you know for sure without knowing the whole range.

However there is a way forward now.

They don't make things easy for us though "All seatbelts fitted etc etc, then with airbags they throw in a little extra couple of words

A couple of extra words can make a lot of differance!

I know the general consensus is pass and advise when in doubt, but when not sure and at the VTS device, why not have a look in section 5.4 for guidance:), the manual does advise us that original fitment is what we are looking for, so anything else would be deemed a pass and advise:D

Had a Y reg 106 in today, drivers and passengers seat airbags have been deployed, but airbag warning light functions correctly.

As the manual states ALL airbags must be present and correct(or similar) I issued the fail under "obviously faulty" (could have used the "missing" option too, as the remains had nearly all been cut out.)

The vehicle presenter returned, and whilst not irate, not happy and explained the seats were from a more upmarket model (306) ! and asked for advice on his next steps.

I suggested refitting the original seats (no longer available), he did come up with the "vehicle has been modified" ploy. The original never came with seat airbags, and the seats are obviously (when you look) not originally for the vehicle.

Any suggestions guys ?
