They ain't bad motors, but they do suffer with rear brake calipers.

They only have one brake pad retaining pin and the holes for the pin rot awayleaving the caliper no good for anything.

Changed the rear pads on it for him a couple of months ago and found the start of corrosion round there on the n/s.  The pin was still secure so cleaned it all up and copperslipped to try and slow it down but calipers seem cheap enough if needed.

At the time I put it down to it living on Anglesey (which is basically one big salt marsh) so interesting to know it's a common problem!

Fair comments, Wes.  I'm not all that worried by electronics or computers (they've been a hobby since my teens), it's just applying them to cars that would take a bit of getting used to!

It's on about 125k miles but driving well and most things seem to work still.  Basically, it's likely to be at real banger pricing and the idea is to use it as a load carrier while we look for something similar size but a little more in keeping with the others - a Monty Countryman TD would be nice if we could find one that wasn't rusted to death!

So wouold probably be looking at getting it through one more ticket at most.

you have to bear in mind that its eight years old now and probably has more than 70,000miles on the clock?, It is a lot more modern than your usual choice of vehicle with a lot more electrical components fitted that can and do go wrong.;)

probably best to have a browse of the forums to read about other owners of C5`s experiences and issues.;)

"without predudice" my suggestion of browsing the forums would relate to all vehicle manufacturers.;)

Thanks for that.  It's a friend's car that I've borrowed a few times and don't mind the ride on long trips (not so good pushing through corners!).  It tows nicely and seems reasonably economic (for its size and  load-lugging ability) when we've used it. 

If there's nothing known to fall off or explode regularly I guess it depends on the price then :)

The last one I had for test, jacked up the rear end to check wheels tyres etc, let it down & it sat on the floor. That stupid suspension had stuck & I spent the rest of the afternoon getting it working again :X:X
Talking of stupid ideas what were they smoking when they put the parking brake on the front wheels?? Think about it, after a vigorous drive in a hilly area you apply a park brake on hot & expanded brake disc's, they cool off after an hour or so & by by Citroen as the brake pads are no longer holding on to the shrunk disc !!
I guess if you like one & like to have an element of uncertainty in your life & want something very different from the norm then have one ;)

I think just the look of them puts me off,

As far as reliability goes or mot matters, cant fault them.

handbrake cables like to seize & are a right pain when they do ( on the front wheels )
suspension pipes can fail , rear calipers have a nasty tendency to seize to their retaining bolts & end up scraping the inside of the rear wheels .
last time I drove one it felt like being in a boat , don't like the ride at all :shock:

Not strictly my car but one I'm thinking of getting if the price is right.  It's way more modern than I'm used to so any tips on common problems? 

MOT related especially but anything else appreciated as well :)
