afiafi1 stated in his first post that the last test was a Class 5 so it's highly unlikely that the GVW will be under 2500. There is no "van" in the MOT definitions other than living vans, only passenger vehicles or goods vehicles. As you state, vans and car derived vans are classed as goods vehicles. Your reference to vans with windows harks back to the days when your dad couldn't afford a car so he bought a cheap van, fitted an extra row of seats and windows and took your mum & the rest of the little DB9's to Blackpool for the annual weekly holiday but didn't notify DVLA because road tax for vans was also cheaper. Nothing to do with MOT test classes apart from the requirement in the dual purpose definition. ![]()

A goods vehicle being a car derived van, van, pick up or truck. A van is not a van anymore once side facing windows are fitted ![]()

castrolrob wrote:The funny bit is the not record showing say 15 seat belts approved on a motor with say 3 seats BTW David, afiaf1 never mention a previous number of seats. castrolrob referred to a previous record of 15 seats, presumably because he has encountered a similar scenario. Happy researching. ![]()

DB9 wrote:How does a 15 seater mini bus with seats removed and windows fitted become a goods vehicle? We test as presented. afiafi1 has stated it only has one seat so it can't be a minibus at the time of test. Mini buses by definition require a specified number of passenger seats. It can't be a living van as that requires some form of living accommodation as well as load carrying capacity. It can't be a dual purpose vehicle as that requires a second row of seats behind the driver. I presume the one seat referred to is the driver's seat. If it only has the one seat it cant be a passenger vehicle. Go look up the regs and give me a definitive answer, not an argument. ![]()
