think the majority of the problem is that most(particularly pre 09) don't read anywhere near their plated limit and whats more never have done but up to this point no one had ever checked, have seen some with all the paperwork/history with identical smoke readings going back a decade or more, failed smoke, nuffing wrong with em except for a government directive.given that all we measure is soot and the pollutants causing the most problems(ie nox etc)are not even tested for by us you gotta admit its pretty laughable.except perhaps for the poor bastards that own em that the gvmnt seem to expect to just go out and buy a more modern vehicle that is![]() ![]()

I think the plate is when the system was new and all good working order but when an engine done 60+k and not been looked after I think most will fail on smoke so it will get van drivers too look after there engines more .but time will tell if it will work my fail rate has gone up now since new rfr .![]()

its not massively over is it?also somewhat unusual to have a vivaro that revs!check the basics first,air/fuel filters,is the egr jamming, how old is the oil?stuff like that,if all checks out ok take it out and wring its neck with maybe an injector conditioner or similar poured in first(preferably direct into the fuel filter) and given an hour or twos running to give it a fighting chance of having some sort of effect rather than pouring a bottle in and smoke testing it again instantly and being surprised by it still failing![]() ![]()

yup and brake performance rfrs shouldn't require going thru 6 screens to access, headlamp beam pattern shud be a simple accessible failure, track rods/balljoints shouldn't be listed as"other items"link bar balljoints/covers etc shud all be on the same screen instead of listed separately before you ever get to a failure screen, this entire system should be listed under the nuisance section![]()
