As Paul has advised, there is no problem in collecting second hand kit to equip your site, provided it is still current on the DVSA list of acceptable equipment. I would recommend an OPTL hoist with shaker plates if you can find one. Here is a link to the current list https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mot-centre-approved-testing-equipment

There are several lists of acceptable equipment you will have to get in touch with dvsa, ie there are 25 pages of standard brake testers without allowing plate & atl brake testers. 29 pages in total for approved brake testers Last edited on Wed Oct 10th, 2018 02:20 pm by Paul S |

Is this a viable option? Will VOSA allow it? I run a busy little garage and currently sub contract out my MOTs to a garage i get on really well with, however they have a new tester who is Stevie Wonder and is missing loads of things. My Garage is big enough to fit a test lane in but ideally i dont want to buy new equipment. With Ebay and so many places going into administration i see loads of bays for sale. My local parts people who will happily supply a new bay for upwards of 22k. But i cant expect them to do all the setting out for not return (ie i dont buy their product) Has anyone done this before? Thanks in advance John
