was fortunate or not fortunate to have the guy from vosa yesterday morning doing the best practise red amber green visit and he informed me about the notice to stop failing the number plates. apparently the new rfr's on number plates hadnt got the correct clearence from parlement and its just a bit of red tape that needs sorting out but ultimately the new rfr's on the plates will go through asap. so today i issued an advisory on a front number plate that the supplying outlets postcode wasnt displayed and that the plate may fail its test next time.

there are quite a lot of plates ive seen  that instead of a postcode have the firms internet address i.e dixons.com etc i wonder weather vosa may rethink about the postcode and possibly accept an internet address?

yet again we are left at the sharp end of the stick trying to explain to customers when they enquire on monday why there illegal number plates are now as if by magic legal :X and vosa clamp down hard on us for bringing the testing scheme in to disrepute..wonder what brung the turnaround about:?

they'll still be illegal just not included on the test - so no one should complain they've got to change their plates because they now satisfy the law which they didn't previously

I reckon its due to the large number of plates fitted to post 01 cars by the dealer from new that dont comply, but its only a guess.

Had a 53 plate golf in today with dealer plates on, but no postcode.

Also had a guy in whos car failed at another Garage on Friday on 6 items, all number plate related, I tested it this morning and it passed with flying colours.

MAD. Has this ever happened before?ie. backtracking on a new RFR

spoke to the area office this morning, no ve's about, just an administrator, she confirmed a genuine source, but would not further any information why, said the sn would explain all, due to be posted on 23/11.

whats the rush eh ! only how many thousand test stations left in limbo for a week awaiting a reason for this mess. My thinking is if the situation needs sorting with IMMEDIATE effect then get the sn out and stop pouncing around with silly notes.

there was a posting on this forum about a month ago, can`t find it now,

complaining about having any extra markings, postcode, etc; could affect his identity.

maybe its about that, diplomatic immunity etc?

whatever it does seem a bit sudden/ strange informing us by e,mail from the service desk and not from VOSA.

Here it is:

Date Sent: 16/11/2007 20:01

For technical reasons with immediate effect no registration plates must be
failed for wrong colour - missing supplier details postcode - BSAU
number - background overprinting - honeycomb or smilar effect background
non reflective borders - unacceptable symbols or flags until further
notice. An SN will be issued with further details shortly.

I agree. I think it is a big-wig legal expert on behalf of the dealers who are having to change plates f.o.c. that they manufactured & not meeting MOT specs.

No doubt, some 'technicality' loop-hole has been found where number plates weren't required to be made to the exacting specs that we are supposed to be testing to.
It's probably this issue that is making VOSA back-pedal.

Although a message issued at 8pm on a Friday night does sound like a wind-up. If it was April 1st, I might be even more suspicious.

Email notification on a Friday night -

"For technical reasons with immediate effect ........"

This all seems a bit panicky to me - I wonder what's going on?

I noticed the VTS device downloading a file this morning - Whats the betting the latest number plate RFR's will be wiped from the system on Monday.
