Background, looking at he MOT history on a car I'm considering purchasing.

Whether it's a contradiction or not, I wouldn't buy a car with a dangerous tag on it. In my personal opinion, I think it is an advice card because after checking the vehicle there are points that do not meet quality standards or are worn or worn out in certain parts. These can be dangerous when used so it is labeled as dangerous advice. It itself doesn't cause any problems for the user, it's just a warning, so the advice tag is reasonable.

Before the 2018 implemented DIRECTIVE 2014/45/EU.. dangerous, major & minor changes there were consultations. I recall one vts council member expressing the need to retain the 'Dangerous facilty check tag' we had available prior to said changes.

So we now have.. Dangerous, Major, Minor and advisory with a dangerous tag facilty, if we use the latter.

For information propshafts were not part of the mot test pre 2018 changes.

Contradiction maybe?. Your looking at the mot history on a car your considering purchasing & you got a heads up the rear diff mount is worn out & an MOT tester has tagged it as dangerous.

welll duh I get that but as per my question surely that's a contradiction?

If it's "dangerous" why is it only an advisory?

Welcome to the forum

A tester has tagged an advisory as DANGEROUS as thats their opinion, same as an advisory for steering rack inner joints being tagged DANGEROUS.
